| Sailing along the coast of Spain can be relaxing or
      exhilarating!
Pictured below, we are always on the lookout for fishing nets in the water which can
foul our propeller.  Our prop picked up a large rope in the middle of
the night.  It stopped our engine.  We drifted until daylight
when Mike could dive under to cut it away.  He lost his good knife
down there but not before he got the job done, thankfully! |

    | We stopped in the new marina in La Linea, next to Gibraltar
where we had our sails repaired.  We left Aquila in the marina and
took a land trip to Seville, Spain for a few days.  It is a beautiful
city with a lot of history.  We followed our tour book's
recommendations and crammed in as much sightseeing as we could while we
were there.  Of course, we took the time to stop for tapas and
      mojitos, often. |

    | In late Sept., we left the Mediterranean Sea through the
Strait of Gibraltar and made a 5 day voyage to the Canary Islands off the
      coast of Africa.
Our first order of business was to haul out for new bottom paint.
Then we had time to play.  The first island in the archipelago for us
      to explore was Lanzarote.
It has a barren volcanic landscape which is almost eerie, but very
      beautiful. |

    | The next island we visited was Gran Canaria.  We found a berth in Puerto de Mogan.
It is one of the most charming port towns we've ever seen!
Gran Canaria is very beautiful.  We rented a car for a week and
visited all parts of the island. |

    | Then we sailed to Tenerife.  Oh my gosh.  It is
our favorite island.  Absolutely amazing.  It is the largest of
the Canary Islands and has beaches, volcanoes, forests, sheer cliffs,
mountains, historic cities, markets and more .. it was wonderful.  We
      loved it there. |

    | Next we sailed to the small island of La Gomera where we
connected with our San Diego friends, Mark and Kimberly on s/v Swanya, and made new
friends, Terry and Debbie on s/v Wings.   All of us are planning to cross the
Atlantic when the time is right.  They will wait in La Gomera, but we
sailed over to La Palma Island to spend our final month.
We'll talk about La Palma in our next update because we just got
here.  It's nicknamed la isla bonita (the pretty island), so we are
      excited! |
